8. Penelope
(written by Ziff/Palmer/Ziff ©BETTYRules Productions /BMI. featuring Lake Salvatore Palmer)
poor Penelope Centipede
sighing as she rubs her feet
she drinks warm milk but to her surprise
no Sand Fairies come to sprinkle her eyes
oh Penelope (oh Penelope)
Penelope (oh Penelope)
so Penelope Centipede
opens a book and begins to read
of Slumberville in Sleepytown
where all Sand Fairies can be found
oh Penelope (oh Penelope)
Penelope (oh Penelope)
giant flowers paint the ground
where Sand Fairies wear cloud nightgowns
and dance the sea and swim the sky
while calling out sweet lullabies lullabies lullabies
“‘La la la la la la la la la la la breathe deeply sleep sweetly’
All through the village, all through the town
all through the night flies an eiderdown of wishes
whispered over beds to land softly on sleepyheads”
soon Penelope Centipede
is drifting off so happily
she yawns in her pillow and sleeps so soon
she doesn’t see the Fairy still
in her room
good night, Penelope Centipede
sleep tight, Penelope Centipede
sweet dreams, Penelope Centipede
sleep well sleep well sleep well Penelope
(don’t let the bedbugs bite!) (good night) (sh!)
